Steam-2-Go Travel Steamer Review
This Steam-2-Go Travel Steamer Review is an in-depth look at the how this handheld unit works in terms of its design and performance. Some compact steamers are kind on the eyes, but don’t offer that much in the way of steam output. Others have great steam but are oddly designed and not comfortable to use. This mini steamer is a smart essential item aimed at travelers who need their clothes looking their finest. It is ideal for taking wrinkled clothes out of the suitcase for a quick touch-up before wearing and is recommended for light use.
The petite size makes it perfect to drop conveniently inside of a backpack or a carry-on bag. There’s nothing special, no notable features, no additional items to purchase. Just fill it with tap water, turn it on and steam away. This is an ideal companion for anyone who already owns a larger size valet steamer. It is quite obvious, that you can’t travel with a steamer that is cumbersome and takes up a lot of room, because of the base, attachments and multiple accessories.
Pricing for the Steam-2-Go Travel Steamer is typically under $40.
Steam-2-Go Travel Steamer Design
As far as design, the compact size isn’t designed for large projects or laundry day loads. It uses regular tap water which is a plus for this price range as in many compact steamers, tap water will degrade the performance of the steam. The use of tap water also makes this a perfect steamer for traveling since you don’t have to worry about finding or bringing distilled water. Who wants to do that during vacation or on a work trip?
Whenever a traveler is running short on time, this lightweight design is made to provide steam on-the-go, making quick work of smoothing wrinkles. The Steam-2-Go Travel Steamer use 850 watts of electrical power and it heats up in as little as 57 seconds. The steamer fits neatly inside a zippered travel pouch. The unit turns on and off with a hand switch, the same switch can be used to place the steamer on pause to temporarily stop the steam output.
The compact steamer holds 4.4 ounces, which is the equivalent of filling a typical water bottle with 1/4 of water. In order to steam a complete outfit, it would require numerous refills. Steam-2-Go Travel Steamer weighs just 13.75 ounces, weighing less than a bottled water, which is 16.9 ounces. The cord length is an ample 7 feet and this travel steamer measures 5.2 x 0.78 x 2.7 inches.
Steam-2-Go Travel Steamer Performance
This Steam-2-Go Travel Steamer is a lighter version of a full size steamer. It is not designed to handle a clothing load for a family. It would fit right in with vacation travel or a single day business trip, anything that doesn’t require a lot of steaming. It’s not that the quality is inferior; this is just due to the size of the unit. Using this type of steamer for a prolonged period of time would become tiresome and perhaps put stress on the hands and wrists.
The unit appears well built with no obvious defects or concerns noted.
The travel steamer has a relative quick steaming time, which in our test was 57 seconds and along with its mini size means that it takes up less space in the home and when traveling. The benefit of the Steam-2-Go Travel Steamer is that it eliminates wrinkles on most fabrics. It is also the ideal size for fast freshening of curtains, linens, pillows and upholstery. To use, just turn it on, have your garment hanging up-right, preferably against a wall, hold the Steam-2-Go vertically to move it up and down the garment to steam out any creases. With only 850 watts on tap, this isn’t going to be as powerful as the bigger steamers or an iron so stubborn creases or wrinkles in heavier materials will take a bit of time to get out. While that is a tradeoff with a compact steamer, the issue most people will face is the small water capacity will become tiresome for these garments due to frequent refills. Unfortunately you can’t have it cheap, powerful and small at the same time. One or more of these attributes have to go and in the case of the Steam-2-Go, the power suffers. Expect to get one, maybe two garments tops during a session with this steamer before a refill.
The unit doesn’t require a flat surface or steam board to use, simply hang garments on an ordinary hanger and drape over any door to steam. The steam nozzle doesn’t become clogged up and we did not notice any excessive leaking or dripping during use, which has been a concern for several of the compact steamers we have tested. The vertical steam can blast away most unwanted creases in no time and is also great for at home sewing projects to flatten stitches, folds and seams.
While the Steam-2-Go review illustrated the unit was adequate at getting wrinkles out of clothing, it is possible to find a travel steamer with more functions and a larger water reservoir. Although, this unit is designed to be extremely mobile, there are other handheld travel steamers on the market that provide more steam with attachments, for a similar price, such as the DBTech or the Rowenta IS1430.
