The Jumbl steamer is an attractively designed little steamer and is equipped with three attachment heads – wool brush, upholstery, and creaser attachments.  Measuring only 11.2 inches by 5.5 inches by 4 inches it won’t take up too much room in luggage, however it is a little smaller than a regular iron and is just as heavy.

During our Jumbl travel steamer review we had anticipated this being a great steamer while on the road as it appears well designed, however the performance was lacking.  It ran out of hot steam after about ten seconds and then you have to wait for it to build up steam.  While we took into consideration that this steamer is small and designed for travel it does not compare to other small steamers such as the Rowenta Pro IS1430 or the DBTech Multi Steamer among others. On top of the wait time, this steamer puts a lot of water onto the clothing being steamed, which further compounds the small water capacity.

While we were able to occasionally able to get enough steam from this unit it took holding the garment tightly in order to get the wrinkles out, since at it’s best the heat output is severely lacking which seemed odd as the handle gets very hot, almost to the point of feeling unsafe, making us think that there should have been enough heat to adequately operate. 

If you are looking for a travel steamer, you may want to look for other options.

Conair Compact Fabric Steamer GS33R Review

The Conair Compact Fabric Steamer GS33R is a compact but powerful steamer that provides good results at a low price. It utilizes the competency of continuous steam to de-wrinkle your favorite clothes, garments, linens and even heavier garments in half the time of ironing. It comes with a door hook which proves to be the best feature of this product. Hang it on a door, hang your clothing from the steamer and you are on your way to quickly steaming out wrinkles.

The steam is relatively powerful, running at 1000 watts which results in a professional high velocity steam jets and a wide steam head that allows better and even distribution and penetration of powerful steam to your clothes and garments.  It freshens and sanitizes clothes and other garments as well as draperies, curtains, upholstery and more.

Conair Compact Fabric Steamer GS33R – Design

The GS33R is a small, lightweight and easy to carry fabric steamer with an integrated handle.  One word of advice though is to not try to move the steamer while it is still hot as the heat transfers to the handle.   There is an integral cord that wraps in the base for convenient storage and the power switch is conveniently located at the base too.  This is a compact and simple device that is easy to use and put all together that yields great results overall.

Conair Compact Fabric Steamer GS33R Performance

The Conair GS33R does a good job on dress clothes, heavier work uniforms and drapes but did not do so well in our test with sheer curtains, which can be hard to get wrinkles out even with a traditional iron.  While the GS33R is a good steamer, don’t expect the same level of performance as an iron.

We experienced some spitting of water during the test, but as stated in the directions, you have to keep the stem head elevated, otherwise the water goes back into the steamer which causes water to be spit out.  Another warning in the instructions is the manufacturer’s recommendation of using distilled water.  While this isn’t required, you will either have to de-calcify the unit as shown in the instructions or the steam head will become clogged up.  At this price however, it may be cheaper to just buy a new one instead of buying distilled water.

The hose is a little stiffer than we prefer, but after the water heats up, it becomes more flexible and easier to use.

For a little, inexpensive steamer, the Conair GS33R works well.  While not as good as an iron, the price is low and it works faster than an iron to quickly to get wrinkles out of most fabrics.  As long as you don’t have the expectations of a professional steamer, the Conair Compact Fabric Steamer GS33R is a great choice.

Rowenta Pro Compact Steamer IS1430 Review

The Rowenta Pro IS1430 is a nice and compact 1400 watt steamer featuring a wider steam head compared to other steamers in this price point which allows for more efficient steaming pressure for better wrinkle releasing abilities.  During our Rowenta IS1430 Review, the steamer heated up in under three minutes operated for a respectable 47 minutes with water storage of 33 ounces, which is impressive at this price.

Unlike many steamers, that have a cheap, hard plastic hose, the IS1430 comes with a fabric hose, which is soft and flexible to keep from catching on clothing.  The entire unit is on a 360 degree swivel base so you can steam your garments in any angle convenient for you. Another benefit of the swivel base is you can easily wrap the hose on the top portion, slide it up into place and it will not interfere during steaming.

Included attachments are a: lint pad, upholstery brush, a fabric brush, door hook and crease attachment. To keep the attachments organized product comes with a storage bag for storing attachments. The Rowenta IS1430 Pro Compact Garment Steamer not only works great on clothes, it can also work its magic on slip couch covers, bedding as its steam can easily penetrate even the heaviest fabric and garments.

Rowenta Pro Compact Steamer IS1430 – Design

The IS1430 is a compact, easy to store steamer and includes a storage bag for the attachments to keep from losing them.  The power cord is hidden under the base of the unit and the hose and steamer head is designed to be attached neatly to the unit.  A door hook is included to hang fabrics for easy steaming.   The steamer is well balanced and the handle is in easy reach.

The hose could have been made just a little longer as we ended up tipping the steamer over by over stretching a few times which results in spilling hot water on the floor.  While it’s certainly something that can be avoided by paying better attention, an extra six inches of hose would have been nice. 

Rowenta Pro Compact Steamer IS1430 – Performance

Reviewing the Rowenta IS1430 we found that it is an easy to use, inexpensive steamer.

We were mostly satisfied with the ability to get most wrinkles and creases out of fabrics but this steamer won’t give you the results of a good ironing.  Your clothes will look good, but not perfect.  We were pleased with the quick heating time (under three minutes) and ability to go 45 minutes on one tank of water.  This will give you time to do a lot of clothing without having to refill and reheat, like you will with most compact steamers.

The unit overall is compact and well designed ergonomically and offers great performance against similarly priced units.  While it offers some impressive performance and features for the money, there are a few complaints.

The metal hook is a great feature but not as well designed as the Conair GS33R.  The foam stickers that prevent the hook from touching the door fell off easily, which is an annoyance but the hook isn’t well designed and the steamer head fell it off during testing.

We also noted that this steamer does not produce continuous steam, but instead, it steams for about one minute, pauses for about 15 seconds then builds up another burst of steam resulting in uneven performance.  It’s important to note that during this pause, condensation is building up in the hose and if you aren’t paying attention, it will spit out water on your garments, which is a bigger concern when steaming delicate fabrics.  To minimize this try to keep the hose up high which is easier when using the door hook, when it stays on the door.

There was also some leaking found at the connection of the hose to the base.  It seems like it would have been minimized through the use of a washer, but our unit did not have one.

For the money, the Rowenta IS1430 is still a powerful compact fabric steamer that you will get good results from in less time than an iron.

While it’s not the most ergonomic or has cubbyholes to put the attachments or the cord, this is one neat steamer.

DBTech Multi Steam Cleaner – Performance

During the DBTech Multi-Purpose Steam Cleaner review, we found many uses for it other than removing wrinkles.  To say this product is addictive is an understatement.  What started as a review for steaming clothes, quickly went to cleaning the house.  Dirt, dust and grime just melts off! Any surface can be cleaned and the ability to get into the cracks and crevices that normally would need a toothbrush (or just don’t get cleaned because they are hard to get to) are now easy to clean.  Amazingly the burned stains on the glass stove top quickly vanished so no more scraping with a knife blade for an hour!  With the amazing versatility of how this thing cleans, can it get rid of wrinkles?

Surprisingly the DBTech Cleaner does a good job of getting rid of wrinkles and even better than steamers costing considerably more.  It isn’t as fast as steamers with a wide head but given this is a handheld unit, the focused nozzle makes getting the smaller creases out of garments quickly.  We have tested several steamers costing twice as much that could not keep up with the DBTech.  To say this unit is a bargain is an understatement.

The cleaner heats up is just under three minutes as advertised but the water capacity is small so you can get about 15 minutes.  During use, the unit emits steam for about 20 to 30 seconds and then you have to pause for 20 to 30 seconds while it builds up steam and pressure.  This is going to be a problem for any handheld steamer and for big projects, you will need to be patient and refill the tank.  The only real gripe is the sound level of the unit, which is by no means a deal breaker in our opinion.

It should not be considered a heavy duty steamer but is designed for consumers who are seeking a light weight steamer for small jobs, consisting of one or two garments.  Not only is it useful for traveling professionals, but it’s sleek, ergonomic designs makes it perfect for anyone looking for a good quality hand held steamer at an affordable price.

Rowenta DR5015 Design

The DR5015 is designed for maximum steam efficiency with only 800 watts of power. It features in base storage, the power cord conveniently stores out of sight underneath and the steam head on the side of the unit. The illuminated off/on switch make it easy to tell when the base is powered on. This hand held power steamer provided us with 18 minutes of steam time with a transparent water tank, which holds 1.7 ounces of water.

It measures 11.5 inch x 6 inch x 4 inch, making the DR5015 a great travel companion in addition to being lightweight.  Additionally, it has an extra-long cord for ease of use almost anywhere.

Rowenta DR5015 Performance

For quick touch-ups or full power cleaning, the unit is ready to use in 30 seconds. The steam release is activated by a single push electronic pump. When you aren’t steaming with the DR5015, water isn’t bubbling on the inside which many other steamers do and usually results in leaks on the floor.  Another benefit of this is the hose is cool to the touch, alleviating any fears of touching a hot part.

We liked the steam dial that varies from fabric to fabric use as this is usually a feature for more expensive steamers. This is great for fragile fabrics such as polyester, silk, suits, rayons, non-natural and beaded fabrics too.  Also, if you require more steam, it comes with a pump that provides an additional burst to get rid of stubborn wrinkles.   The wide head provides a quick and efficient diffusion of hot steam, and gave the results of what one would expect for a compact steamer.

There are two minor drawbacks of the Rowenta DR5015 performance, one is that it is not durable enough for frequent use and secondly the tank size. The small size tank limits the number of garments that can be steamed at once, although, the tank is designed for multiple pieces. Typically it can steam 1-3 articles of clothing, before the tank needs refilling. The size makes it perfect for college students and travelers or anyone who needs to steam one or two pieces at a time. 

The Rowenta DR5015 review concludes that this unit performs well under most conditions and it does offer excellent wrinkle removal.  This lightweight product is best for quick and light duty needs touch ups. Don’t expect it to work like a regular steamer or have the results of an iron.  For a steamer that sells for around $30 the DR5015 offers a lot of value.

Rowenta DG8430 Performance

The DG8430 is another knock-out product from Rowenta. Offering the best of both worlds, you get an amazing steamer that delivers fast wrinkle removal and ironed results.  What is most impressive is the adjustable steam control settings and 400 steam holes which almost borders on obscene.

A steam release trigger continuously delivers steam for 1 hour and 40 minutes during our test which offers the ability to complete large loads of clothing. This iron was able to straighten out the most stubborn wrinkles especially in those hard to reach areas and even the sharpest creases won’t escape from its power steam.  This steamer is excellent for getting rid of wrinkles on any fabric from light, delicate fabrics to heavy work uniforms.

The performance of the DG8430 is one of the best we have tested but we had have two minor gripes.  One is there is no on/off switch.  It’s not that big of a deal but it would have been a nice addition instead of constantly unplugging it in-between jobs.  The other gripe is the price.  It’s one of the highest on the market, but the results are impressive.

If you are in the market for a steamer and you don’t mind paying for it, this is one of the best on the market.

The purpose of this Smartek ST-50N Review is to describe the benefits and features of this handheld steamer in terms of design and performance and whether it is a steamer worth buying. Smartek is a USA company which specializes in garment care products and they’re known for making economical household products with unique designs.

When you buy the Smartek ST-50N, you will own a product that’s described as a powerful handheld garment steamer. In fact, it does deliver a forceful blast of steam with 800-watts of power.  Don’t let the steam force confuse you because if there was one word chosen to describe the ST-50N, it would be, “efficient.” This steamer performs complete wrinkle removal in no time flat, but don’t expect it to replace the dry cleaners. It has the power capacity to provide full benefits of a traditional steamer, which includes deodorizing and disinfecting is ideal for wrinkle removal on every fabric, be it garments, upholstery, beddings, curtains and draperies and more.  Even with this efficient power it is still a compact unit and because of the small size water tank you will be limited to the number of garments that can be steamed at one session.

This handheld steamer is available for an average retail price of under $30.

Many garment steamers are referred to as compact, when in fact they’re not. This isn’t the case with the ST-50N as it really is petite. As way of comparison, the size of the unit bears a striking resemblance to that of a traditional teapot, complete with handle and spout – let’s look into this steamer further to see if you will get all steamed up and want to shout.

Smartek ST-50N Design

The lightweight, compact Smartek ST-50N is designed to quickly handle small garments. It is possible to steam all types of fabrics, but it will require additional time for anything with a lot of material, such as drapes, bedding or tablecloths. Due to the fact that the tiny built-in water reservoir is only designed for 13 ounces (384ml) of water, you may have to refill before completing your task.  There’s a convenient clear water level indicator to determine when it’s full.

Because of its compact size, the unit does not require a lot of accessories and the only ones included are a measuring cup, lint remover and two fabric brushes.  The accessories are of poor quality and at best were sometimes difficult to attach without using a little muscle, but we did have concerns of them breaking.

Although the Smartek ST-50N doesn’t feature an ergonomic design, the handle does have an easy grip and it is always cool.

The dimensions for this garment steamer are 10″ Height x 3″ Width x 6″ Depth.

Smartek ST-50N Performance

This unit is not designed to handle commercial steaming. It is convenient for travelers, if you need to quickly do one or two garments or just need a touchup before going out.

Overall the ST-50N produced sufficient steam to get rid of wrinkles but the overall quality of the steamer leaves a little to be desired.  We tested this unit with both distilled and tap water to see if there was a performance difference and we were not able to get any extra steam out of it.

During our Smartek ST-50N review we found it worked well for some lighter weight clothing items but don’t confuse this for a larger steamer which can handle all types of garments and multiple items before refilling the reservoir. The water reservoir of ST-50N needs to be refilled often in order to complete one article of clothing.  One of the benefits of this garment steamer is that it does not leave scorched or burn marks like an iron, when it does make prolonged contact with the fabric. We found to achieve the best results, the application of steam must be applied directly onto the garment in order to release the wrinkle. For bulky items or long garments wrinkle removal does take longer because of the power of the unit.

If water is left in the unit after use for prolonged periods, it will create rust and thus the steamer could leave brown spots on clothing and eventually become inoperable due to buildup, so be sure to empty after each time.

The Smartek ST-50N performance would best be described as average as it works best for a person who has a few items to steam as opposed to an entire wardrobe.  We see the best use for the home is in the laundry room next to the dryer to quickly steam out the wrinkles and then use a bigger steam press for larger jobs.  One useful function for this steamer would be for ornate beaded or sequined garments as it will glide over and won’t damage or break buttons.  This steamer also makes itself at for for business travelers because it doesn’t take up a lot of space inside of a small suitcase. The unit turns on and off with a hand switch, the same switch can be used to place the steamer on pause to temporarily stop the steam output.

The compact steamer holds 4.4 ounces, which is the equivalent of filling a typical water bottle with 1/4 of water. In order to steam a complete outfit, it would require numerous refills. Steam-2-Go Travel Steamer weighs just 13.75 ounces, weighing less than a bottled water, which is 16.9 ounces. The cord length is an ample 7 feet and this travel steamer measures 5.2 x 0.78 x 2.7 inches.

Steam-2-Go Travel Steamer Performance

This Steam-2-Go Travel Steamer is a lighter version of a full size steamer. It is not designed to handle a clothing load for a family.  It would fit right in with vacation travel or a single day business trip, anything that doesn’t require a lot of steaming. It’s not that the quality is inferior; this is just due to the size of the unit. Using this type of steamer for a prolonged period of time would become tiresome and perhaps put stress on the hands and wrists.

The unit appears well built with no obvious defects or concerns noted.

The travel steamer has a relative quick steaming time, which in our test was 57 seconds and along with its mini size means that it takes up less space in the home and when traveling. The benefit of the Steam-2-Go Travel Steamer is that it eliminates wrinkles on most fabrics. It is also the ideal size for fast freshening of curtains, linens, pillows and upholstery.  To use, just turn it on, have your garment hanging up-right, preferably against a wall, hold the Steam-2-Go vertically to move it up and down the garment to steam out any creases.  With only 850 watts on tap, this isn’t going to be as powerful as the bigger steamers or an iron so stubborn creases or wrinkles in heavier materials will take a bit of time to get out.  While that is a tradeoff with a compact steamer, the issue most people will face is the small water capacity will become tiresome for these garments due to frequent refills. Unfortunately you can’t have it cheap, powerful and small at the same time.  One or more of these attributes have to go and in the case of the Steam-2-Go, the power suffers.  Expect to get one, maybe two garments tops during a session with this steamer before a refill. 

The unit doesn’t require a flat surface or steam board to use, simply hang garments on an ordinary hanger and drape over any door to steam. The steam nozzle doesn’t become clogged up and we did not notice any excessive leaking or dripping during use, which has been a concern for several of the compact steamers we have tested. The vertical steam can blast away most unwanted creases in no time and is also great for at home sewing projects to flatten stitches, folds and seams.

While the Steam-2-Go review illustrated the unit was adequate at getting wrinkles out of clothing, it is possible to find a travel steamer with more functions and a larger water reservoir. Although, this unit is designed to be extremely mobile, there are other handheld travel steamers on the market that provide more steam with attachments, for a similar price, such as the DBTech or the Rowenta IS1430.

The Shark Press and Refresh works like a heavy duty model, it’s tough on wrinkles and it comes with wrinkle eraser pressing bar. It is billed as the steamer that fits your lifestyle. This steamer is a gem; it can take good care of any type of fabric and upholstery. The Press and Refresh performs well on slipcovers, bedding, car seats, stuffed animals, window treatments, linen tablecloths, pillows and mattresses. When deciding to purchase any hand held steamer, consider where you plan to use it against the factors of performance, portability, design and durability. The My Little Steamer Go Mini is a good buy, however, it seems to work best when used infrequently or during travel.
