Singer SteamWorks Pro Review
In this Singer SteamWorks Pro Review, consumers can determine if they could benefit from purchasing this steamer. The Singer Company began making world class sewing machines in 1851. In the span, which covers a 160 years, Singer has evolved into a trusted brand. As part of this evolution, Singer continues to develop products that keep pace with the changing times. In response to consumer demand for Eco-friendly garment care, Singer has created a product line of innovative steamers.
Singer’s Pro model provides an impressive 97 minutes of ongoing steam. That’s a full hour and a half of steaming time before refilling. One of the reasons that there’s a designation of “Pro” in the name, is because the Singer SteamWorks Pro by all accounts offer similar benefits of using a professional grade steamer. Singer’s lasting appeal comes from providing consumers with affordable home essential products; the average retail price for the SteamWorks Pro is under $100.
The Singer SteamWorks Pro includes a 2 year limited warranty which is longer than most steamer companies which is an indication Singer has built a long-lasting product.
Singer SteamWorks Pro Design
The Singer SteamWorks Pro weighs 11 pounds without water and 13 pounds total when it’s filled. The steam head measures 5.5 inches wide and it is a 1500 watts/12 volt standing steamer. The unit has dual clip system to hang pants, and it features a collapsible hanger for blouses and dresses that rotates 360 degrees. Additionally, there’s an adjustable telescopic pole and a large capacity water tank, which holds 85 ounces (2.5L) of water. The power cord is 94 inches long and the fabric insulated cord, measures 60 inches. The design has a Smart Technology feature, when the unit detects that the water tank is empty, the power automatically shuts off.
It comes with an array of accessories including; a protective glove, crease clip, steaming board and fabric brush. The glove helps to prevent incidental hand contact with the hot steam and the steaming board is designed to insert inside of shirt pockets for a professional finish. Singer does recommend filling the water tank with distilled water but if tap water is used, a separate liquid cleaner is needed to remove hard water scale buildup
The unit is large and although the hanger and pole collapses for storage, the tank can be a problem in small spaces. Finding a good spot to keep the steamer can be an issue in a small utility closet or separate storage area, such as a studio apartment or tiny kitchen. We were a bit disappointed in the build quality as our first test unit’s hose did not fit well and constantly came loose from the water tank. It also seems that the plastic connector threads inside the head of the hose are easy to strip and could cause the head to come off as well. Overall the plastic machining needs a bit of revising to be right.
Singer SteamWorks Pro Performance
There are aspects of the Singer SteamWorks Pro that we really like and others aspects of the SteamWorks Pro that could use improvement. The most favorable feature of this product is that it produces hot steam in a short amount of time – 45 seconds in our testing. Due to Singer’s reputation for creating high quality products, it would seem that it would rank higher than number eight, in the testing conducted by the Good Housekeeping Institute, which essentially classifies 7 other steamers as providing a better performance.
With our second test unit that had the hose fitting that stayed connected in the tank we were pretty happy with the performance. During the test, the SteamWorks Pro provided steam for 97 minutes and the steam output is gentle on even delicate fabrics as there are different settings to select the desired amount of steam. We liked the steam quality of the SteamWorks Pro which was able to finish a variety of moderately wrinkled items in under a minute and best of all it did not leave clothing wet after steaming. The Singer SteamWorks Pro offers a gentle, continuous flow of steam to remove stubborn wrinkles and to refresh materials and we estimate that it is possible to steam multiple outfits for a family of four on one tank. Besides the quick heat up time of 45 seconds there are additional benefits of the Singer SteamWorks Pro model. The telescopic pole adds convenience by allowing the user to extend the unit to its full height of 52 inches. The rolling casters provide for easy transport from room-to-room and the unit did not leak.
We also tested the SteamWorks Pro to refresh linens, upholstery and drapes with very little effort. The Singer SteamWorks Pro can lessen the amount of money spent on dry cleaning bulky items as curtains and comforters can be washed and dried at home and finished with steam.
